Why did you become a dentist?
I grew up always wanting to be a doctor due in part to my desire to help others and in part to my fascination with the hard sciences. After trying different fields and specialities I chose dentistry.

Why did you become a dentist?
I decided to become a dentist because of my cousin. When I first graduated from high school, I didn't know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. A few careers crossed my mind, but it did not feel right. My cousin told me to go work with her and meet the dentist she worked for. After shadowing and some soul searching, I decided to pursue a career in dentistry so that I could help others and care for my community.
Interesting Facts

When I was younger, I was a loner and shy. I had a lot of dental work due to lack of brushing and lots of sweets from my dad. I grew up feeling that I was not good enough. However, one middle school teacher changed that for me. She told me that she was proud of me and that I should not feel so bad as long as I kept trying my best. From then on my faith grew and I stopped beating my self down. I worked hard in everything I did and even in subjects that I was poor in. My determination to not give up and my habits of working hard has led me to where I am today.

Education

  • Minor in Sociology - Wichita State University
  • Doctor of Optometry Magna Cum Laude - University of Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry
Why did you become a optometrist?
When I was in third grade I received my first pair of glasses. I was amazed at how clear the grains of wood in the office were and how distinct each leaf on the tree outside was. From that moment on I wanted to give others the same experience. Third grader Diana decided she wanted to be either a superstar singer, a teacher, or an optometrist. I quickly found out that I am not a great singer, however I love teaching others about the eyes and optometry gives me that opportunity. I actually ended up working as an optometric technician at the same office where I put on my first pair of glasses. I am excited to watch my patients grow every year like my eye doctor did with me!
Interesting Facts

I was raised in Wichita, so I am extremely happy to be back serving my community! I spend the majority of my time with my large family and all of our pets. My family is filled with crazy cat ladies, including myself. My cat's name is Raspberry. He likes to go on walks and dresses up in different outfits on his Instagram profile. I also enjoy going out to eat at restaurants. I am a huge foodie and am always thinking about what I want to try next.

Why did you become a optometrist?
My father is the closest person I know with Amerlia, or easier known has having only one arm. I would hear stories from family about how he grew up not only with a physical handicap, but in a culture with a stigmatic handicap as being an outcast, or "cursed" because of his deformity. He had to overcome so much, and never used any of it an an excuse to accomplish and provide my family and I with more than I ever needed. Obstacles and barriers are an unfortunate reality for so many. Through him, I knew early on that I wanted to help others in some way, but only found later on that a great fit for me was vision, as I had first hand experienced how much glasses changed my life. The combination of the two would lead to a professional career in Optometry where I am grateful each day being able to be a part of such meaningful treatment, and be one part of many that helps kids grow to their fullest potential.
Interesting Facts

I have two sons, Carter 12 and Caleb 8. We have a three year old poodle named Charlie. We love traveling, volunteering, and participating in running events across the country.

Education

I graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in Biology. I then went to Memphis, Tennessee where I earned my doctor of optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry.

Why did you become a optometrist?
I've always loved science and knew that I wanted to be a healthcare provider of some sort. I think the reason I ultimately decided on optometry was the experience of receiving my first pair of glasses. I put them on at my optometrist's office and looked in the mirror and said "I have freckles?!" My vision was so poor, I didn't know I had freckles. Then on the car ride home I looked out the windows and saw the detail of the leaves on the trees and blades of grass for the first time. I was 10 but I remember it like it was yesterday. I thought it would be awesome to be able to give other people that kind of experience.
Interesting Facts

I grew up in a small town near Nashville, Tennessee. I spent the majority of my life in Tennessee, until I moved to Wichita right after I graduated from optometry school in 2016. I am the mother of two boys and they are my world!

I take my granddaughter to the Adventure Dental side and they are friendly and understanding. They communicate with the patients and parent or guardian about what's going on or what's going to go on and how its going to work. Its' a really clean and sanitized environment. My granddaughter loves going there!
Thank you very much Adventure Dental team for being a great, wonderful and patient team.
